hi rich!
was wondering,DID you set the discriminator to ZERO when hunting?..i have been told the same thing that you will get less iron hits very deep that way!
also,it has been explained to me to make sure you 'circle" your target to ascertain the high tone!..make sure the detector is giving mostly a "high tone hit
from all compass points ,before making the dig ,or no dig decision.appreciate the feed back, and a lot of info!..thanks!

j.t.,

I hunted the majority of my years with the discriminator set to 1. It wasn't until AFTER I traded my CZ-6a and was on the Findmall forum learning to use my Explorer XS that I 'learned' this CZ secret about leaving the discriminator set on "0". That said. I had some remorse (this is years later) over hunting with my detector set up incorrectly. So I picked up a very nice and hot little CZ-5 and had it tuned and calibrated to the CZ-3D windows by Tom Dankowski and went back to it.

What did I find. The CZ-5 was awesome. It was very sensitive and deep, but the VCO still rang my ears and I was suddenly digging deep rusty nails that I wasn't digging with my FBS machine. For me, that was enough, as much as I wanted to be one of those hardcore guys still swinging a CZ and pulling 12" deep coins out of parks and lawns, it just wasn't working for me. And my other detector was. The audio on my FBS machine was pleasant to my ear, I dug some rusty bent nails, but nothing compared to the CZ. My quantity and quality of finds was up with my FBS machine and I was a happy camper.

However, like I said, I made a lot of great finds with my CZ-6a that I used for almost 5 years. I have a great respect for its' capabilities.

Hope that clarifies my earlier comments.

Again, best of luck with whatever you decide to use. I have to admit, I do have a side of me that enjoys using some of the older machines and putting them back to work.

Of all the Fishers (CZ5,1236X2, 1266) that I have owned, I liked the 1266 the bestthumbs up
