Your Detector Choice for Hunting a Vintage School

September 10, 2018 07:50PM
Last week, jmaryt, brought up the subject of whether the new equinox 800/600 was a good choice for hunting old public parks or schools that have been hunted to death.

Thought it would be interesting to read the detector choice(s) each of us would make if we were invited by a friend to hunt an old vintage school we are unfamiliar with for a day. You can bring 2 of your own detectors; a primary and back up. What would you bring?

I'll start - The two detectors I am going to bring are my EQ800 and my CoRe.

Why these to start?

I have confidence in both of these detectors in old School environments. Both are excellent at sorting closely located targets. Most of the old schools I have hunted have plenty of conductive trash to sort through looking for keepers and having a detector that can sort (unmask) well is a big plus in my book.

Second, most schools have a lot of territory to cover; playgrounds, ball fields, large grass areas. I have accessory coils for going smaller if needed if the trash gets thick, but both of these detectors have stock coils big enough they can cover larger areas like a ball field and can go deeper and give me a good response on deep targets. I have a BIG coil for the CoRe that can cover Large open areas with fewer targets quickly, perhaps find a long lost ring or two.

There you go. That's how I think I would start. Surely somebody will come up with an option or two I didn't think of. If I typed this up tomrrow, I might want to swap out one of these detectors for my old comfortable favorite, the etrac. I have a good coil selection for it as well.

Interested to read which of your detectors you'd bring and why.

Okay, I did some thinkticating and kind of figured out a 2-Detector answer.
