Okay, I did some thinkticating and kind of figured out a 2-Detector answer.

The dilemma for me was one 'known' and one 'unknown.'

The 'unknown' factor is what kind of an 'old school' I was going to hunt? Large open grassy areas of an in-use school, or a smaller surrounding environment that might be overgrown or have more unwanted trash of a forlorn and abandoned school or school remains. So the site environment itself would govern what detector and search coil choices I would select to use.

Then there is the 'known' factor and that is to pick-and-choose which 2 of my current 10 Regular-Use Detectors I would want to grab.

I have 2 Nokta 15 kHz devices and two at 19 kHz; 2 White's at 6.59 kHz and 1 at 13.9 kHz; 1 Teknetics model at 7.8 kHz and 2 Tesoro's working at 10 kHz. So IF I knew the answers to the 'unknown' part, it would make it easier. But just making a quick pick of only TWO detectors (when I generally load at least 3 to 5 units in my vehicle for any jaunt) would be one of the following Two-Detector Combinations based on how I happened to feel that particular day:

A 15 kHz Nokta FORS CoRe w/ 'OOR' and 5X9½ DD coils for most typical site challenges, and FORS Relic or other 19 kHz operating model w/5" DD, 7" Concentric or 'standard' coil for more sparse-target open-area searching.

One of the above choices and a White's XLT w/6½ and 950 Concentric coils.

One of the original two and a White's modified Classic ID w/5½ and 8" Concentric coils.

Another twosome team of one of the first models and a White's MX-7 w/6½" Concentric coil.

One more mix of one original unit and a Teknetics Omega 8000 V-4 w/7" Concentric coil.

Again picking one of the Nokta devices and a Tesoro Bandido II µMAX w/6" Concentric coil.

Perhaps I'd team up the White's XLT with a modified Classic ID or with an MX-7, maybe the Teknetics Omega or a Tesoro?

Could just grab my MX-7 and add the Classic ID or Omega or Bandido II µMAX.

Very seldom would I take on an old school without a 15 kHz or 19 kHz Nokta, a 6.59 kHz White's or my 13.9 kHz White's making up their share of a Two Detector outfit.

I guess that's the best 2-Unit answer I can give you. cool smiley Also depends on how I am feeling and my mobility at the time, too.
