My testing plant is probably not practical way to everyone.

But everyone could perform simple "in field" coin depth test in real soil by drilling vertical
test hole in soil, using metallic (or even hard wooden) rod.
Depth = part of string immersed in hole.

Due to narrow hole (in diameter a little more than diameter of tested coin) there is no
deviation in test results caused by air in hole even using small 5" coil.
So filing hole by soil is not needed.

Here drawing that explain how to perform such test:





Coin test samples can be fixed to stable horizontal position on string/bamboo
(end of string can be welded to ball-like form using a lighter or candle) this way:
