Saturday the 13th I hoped for clouds and a breeze, but we hit 100° and I had some family things to attend to.
Day #14 I took the White's XLT w/6½" Concentric to a site early, but not early enough as there was no shade and it heated up in a hurry. But late in the day it clouded up quickly with some high winds and a lot of flashing and rumbling as we had a nice summer thunderstorm hurry in. That made it cool down quickly with the very thick clouds it was quite comfortable.
I found a place where they had moved some dirt a couple of decades ago and the first target-hit, in about 8 to 10 coil sweeps, I toe-scuffed out at about 2" and was pleased to see a shining silver coin in the clump.

First coin was silver and I was naturally hoping to enjoy more targets like that ....
but it didn't happen. I worked the dirt that had been brought in and kind of leveled over about a 10' X 20' area. It was late in the evening and I only had about an hour before dark and I tried to cover that area as best I could
Old ring-pull tabs and not one modern pry-tab, which was a good sign, and very few other trash items as I recovered another 11 coins. No more silver, just 1 Nickel and 10 pennies for a total of 12 coins that evening. The oldest was a 1942 Wheat-back Cent, and when I got the hard, caked-on dirt removed my Dime was only a '61 Roosevelt ... but, at least it was 'silver.' The newest coins were 3 Pennies from 1970, so that made all the coins 49 years old or older. At least the potential was there for more silver, but the unhunted areas, about 3 times the size of the bare dirt I hunted, was densely covered with thick, tall weeds. I'll check it this fall when it should be more exposed.
Day #15 I had an appointment at the Boise VA Hospital that I had to cancel as I was a little under the weather from a crashing blood sugar episode, and being sick kept me home until late that evening. I took the XLT back to the spot I got the silver Dime from and tried to work into a portion of the weedy area, but we had another short high-wind storm with more lightening and thunder, and that time about a 15 minute shower to make me head to the vehicle. Not too productive as I only recovered 5 coins, and that was after I moved off a ways into some open grassy park area adjacent to the dirt dump. It was only 3 Pennies and 2 Dimes, but all modern fro '65 to '82.
At least I got out some of the time, but really am anxious for summer to end and a long and pleasant fall to arrive and hang around ... maybe until spring.
