I don't recall the last time I had a 100 coin day; it's certainly been awhile. Nowadays, I don't generally hunt for an entire day. It is usually an hour or two here and there with an occasional outing. And while I have predominantly been a coin hunter since I first picked up a metal detector back in the mid-70's, I've never specifically looked for clad coins, it was always the older coins, out of circulation coins that I've been interested in finding.
With the culture shift we're seeing, and the use of electronic transactions, many people chosing to be cashless, and the migration away from jewelry made of precious metals (silver, gold, platinum) I often feel pretty good when I come across an area where I'm digging COPPER pennies rather than corroded zinc pennies. I would never have thunk it if you asked me 30 years ago.
You know, the US Mint only made copper memorial pennies from 1959 to 1982, a measely 24 years. On the other hand, the Zinc penny has been out there now since 1983. That's 37 years worth of slowly dissolving pennies for us to find.

I keep hoping they'll do away with them altogether. Most people leave them at the counter in a little bowl now when going to a convenience store. I even see dimes and quarters in the bowls.
Glad to see you're getting out and moving towards your goal.
Best of Luck -
Rich
