Cleaning out the zinc & looking for masked targets
I spent under 3 hours today at a recently discovered metered parking area with grass adjacent to the meters. This was
my 3rd trip to this spot and the first two I was focused on finding high tone targets while working around the zinc cents,
going over the area from multiple angles and at different speeds to try and isolate non-zinc targets from the zinc. There was nothing exciting found, but I removed a lot of quarters, dimes and copper cents on the previous searches, as well as the zinc cents that were closely adjacent to more valuable targets that I could identify separate from the zinc..
Today I specifically tried to remove
all targets from the area using the EQ800 with the 11 inch coil as in the previous searches. All but a few of the retrieved coins were removed using a probe and Garrett carrot to identify and remove the coins. Then I went back over each spot with the 800 to identify more targets, pinpoint and probe for recovery. I hunted less than three hours, until it was dark, and finished about half of the area. The recovered coins were predominantly zinc, but there were a significant number of hidden, non-zinc items to be recovered after the zinc was removed.
Totals for the day: 3- 25c.; 22- 10c.; 3- 5c; 18 copper 1c.; 60 zinc 1c.
Also one Canadian 1c. and a Canadian 5c. and a silver earring hook.
Oldest coin 1961-D memorial cent.
Average value per item: 04c.
57% zinc coins. Note that I only dug 72 zinc cents in all of July.
First time this year for me with 100 coins in a day's hunt.
