Last year, I dug my first IHP in northern Utah. I told myself I’d eventually make it back to the site where I dug it. Not sure why it took me so long to drag my gear back out there but I’m sure glad I did! I was using my Garrett AT Max with a stock coil. Ground balanced at 84. Ground I was detecting was infested with NAILS. Thinking some kind of structure used to exist. The Max did a great job of locating non-ferrous targets with nails in the same hole. Also found lots of burnt wood and charcoal in the ground. Signals were between 4-12” in the ground. It’s a HUGE area so I have lots of work cut out for me. Managed my first ever standing liberty half dollar (1945), 1906 IHP, 1920 slightly bent merc dime, and a 44 wheat. Managed to dig all this in 2 hours. Site is definitely virgin. I’ll be hitting this area hard over the next few months.
