Last Wednesday and Friday evening hunts - a heart bracelet and butterfly ring
It is so dry that I'm carrying gallon jugs of water to use to water in, if I make a hinged plug; and am trying to recover most objects using a probe. The soil is pure dust deeper than I ever dig and there are very limited places for me to detect properly. I found a small grass area next to some meters, and a short sidewalk strip to hunt, with three gallon jugs of water to reset the plugs, hunted for a couple of hours Wednesday and Friday until it was past dark. Hunting with the EQ 800, 11 inch coil, Park 1, iron intermittently on, mostly off, f2-4.
Recovered a pile of clad Wednesday with lots of copper cents but only 3 quarters recovered and darkness on me I moved onto another wider area of grass seeking a fourth quarter before heading home. After only a few minutes I found that, and after recovery, turned around with my coil on the ground and got a mid-tone which I thought might be a nickel. I was going to leave it for another day but something about the sound said "dig me" so I pinpointed it, found the hot spot with my Carrot and probed for a nickel... finding instead a nice sterling marked "heart bracelet". It was fully dark out and putting the chain in my pouch, I ran the coil over the area and got a pull-tab "16" mid-tone. "Dig me" it said, and I recovered the small sterling end-piece? to the bracelet about 4 inches from where the bracelet was found. The clasp is missing.
Friday I went back to see if I could find the clasp. Took the 6" coil but didn't put it on. Went over the area carefully with the 11 coil and then went over it with the pin-pointer to see if I could locate it and came up empty. Moving along the sidewalk, near dark again and got what I thought would be a copper cent. Probing brought up this pretty little "butterfly ring" marked S 925 and with another possible maker's mark capital M with a flourish-type extension on the right side.
No silver coins but fun to find silver jewelry. My wife really likes the ring. Don't know if the clasp is worth pursuing. I think it's there and was originally attached to the bracelet with the small separated piece. Don't know if I have ever found silver that small. Iron - yes. I did find the small piece to the bracelet weighing 1.2 grams with the 11 inch coil.
