I liked your story. I too hunt old places. I use minimal discrimination and I go as high on sensitivity as I can. I also bring a variety of machines to the place and i use them all on occasion and i use them all in the same manner as described previosly. It will bring things to the light of day. I dig all smaller signals when I'm in an old place.
NWCindy could you describe what the small singnals are like. Most of the time I use a old White's 5900 Di Pro Plus in all metal mode ( normal GEB ). Most of the time this detector will 99% of the time tell you accurately what is under the coil to at least 5 inches. A lot of he time I know by sound alone what is there. It is the deeper coins and targets that cause me problems. Seems as if at 6 inches and deeper the bottle caps nail and old coins sound the same. Don't want to ware out my welcome by digging up the fairground just to recover 10,000 bottle caps and 5,000 common nails and recover 100 old coins. It maybe I am just asking too much from a old analog detector. But the idea of focusing on small signals intrigues me. I am willing to learn a new trick to put a old coin in the pouch. Thank you in advance.
