I thrive on so called hunted-out places! Last week, using a 30 year old metal detector - my favorite - I dug a silver filigree ring, three wheat cents, a bunch of clad and a 1901 Indian Head cent - all from an old “hunted-out” fairgrounds. I do this over and over again. Why? Because I use a really great metal detector and know how and where to use it. You don’t need to use the same detector as I, just use what you have but really get to know it. Take your time when searching. Be patient and persistent. I often spend hours searching very small sections of land. It can pay-off as many detectorists search way too fast and do a bad job of overlapping and investigating weak and broken signals. The above mentioned 1901 Indian Head cent was but 2-inches deep, but next to iron. It had to be “hit” from just the right search angle to be heard. I often “walk-around” an “iffy” signal to see if I can get a clean response. Many times it works.
