I’ve been hitting some of my favorite spots and searching for new ones but haven’t found anything exciting for a couple of months. I quit hunting parks when COVID shut them down, so I began to wonder if my detector even made high tones anymore.
I remembered our club had a seeded poker hunt several years ago, and of course all the “seeds” were not found, so I thought I’d try that spot for a change of pace. It was raining when I arrived, but it soon cleared up and I broke out my Deus.
There were two different fields, one much easier terrain than the other, but I found 16 coins; 2 quarters, 1 dime, and 13 nickels. The number of nickels surprised me until I gave it a little thought. Most contestants were hurrying and went for the high tones or perhaps weren’t familiar enough with their machine to sniff out the nickels. Also, there were .22 shells scattered throughout the fields and most rang in just below the nickels.
All in all, I had a fun afternoon, found out my high tone still works, and got a couple of pretty good poker hands to boot!
