Did they use any 'real' silver coins in those containers? If so, did you find any?
Which coil and settings did you use on your Deus?
IF I was still in Oregon, especially the west side, I know of two or three locations where clubs held Competition Hunts over the past 24 years and the ground mineral make-up is challenging, plus a lot of 'planters' got lazy and didn't follow instructions. That allowed me to go back with a good detector and more functional settings to find a lot of the targets that were improperly-planted and I spent one to four days reworking some of the hunt areas afterward and recovered a lot of silver coins. That was especially from two of the locations. One of the sites was altered quite a bit with a go-cart track, but there were still some areas of pushed-aside dirt that produced.
But I moved away from the area, then farther away to Central Oregon, then to even farther away to Eastern Oregon, and now to the heart of West Central Texas. I had to cross all of those sites on my 'go visit' list, but will set out to find some old club competition hunt-sites from back in the hey-day when we had a lot of very active clubs.
Anyone who knows of some popular, frequently-used Competition Hunt locations, especially with lot of dirt and rocks and used back when they planted a lot of silver, ought to grab a good detector and coil, use the best settings, and go after all the missed targets.
