Well, on the 2nd I said I was going to hunt the loose sandy dirt they put back over the trench where they ran the new sewer line. I hunted it a bit that evening, then used a couple of different detectors and coil sizes to work it again on the 3rd, and then sifted all the loose dirt
(2" to 5" high) that was mounded over the trench just to see what was missed.
1 -- Pull-Tab 'beaver-tail'
1 -- Rectangular Pry-Tab
1 -- 1¼" Grommet
4 -- Assorted pieces of metal off of ????
1 -- Screw Cap
4 -- Iron Nails
2 -- Small metal pieces associated with an old distributor
2 -- Copper memorial 1¢ coins
2 -- Hunks of aluminum foil
If there was anything else good from the digging it must have been in the first dirt shoveled back in the trench. Not very exciting, and that was after screening all the 'trench dirt' that was left above the ground surface.
Daylight in about 45 minutes so I am going to try and beat the heat and shift my detecting efforts to the NW area of the yard and see if there're any worthwhile keepers anywhere around the storm shelter. Still baffled about the poor results of older coins, but not going to give up. They are out there somewhere.
