Remfire, reading your post it looks like you did what I would suggest anyway.

First survey site see if there's any place that looks inviting, and you did not by splitting the playground.

Second I always recommend someone starts right where they Park turn their detector on and search their way to the location they think looks inviting. You did that and that's what I would have suggested.

In addition, you started at the berm or sloped area and that's always a good place because kids roll, people trip and fall and other losses can occur.

And of course the most important thing is you got out detecting!
