I'm wondering if the 1918 could have be stuck in an acid solution to thin it since the planchet is missing a lot of it's weight? It doesn't seem like the date and small lettering would survive that treatment though.

I did some searching to try and find any collectible "oversize" Lincoln cents and came up with nothing. It is so much oversize and with a heavy rim, almost as big as a nickel: maybe a larger foreign coin planchet struck with cent dies?

You've got yourself some true mystery coins there.
