Not terrific, but a ghost town hunt without being skunked. thumbs up

Well, it turned out to be a nice day today, making two-in-a row with most of the ground not frozen, mostly sunny, and only a slight breeze that let it warm up to about 45°- 48°. Oregon Gregg, with Binker and Molly to guide the way, and Miss Rikki & I, made our drives for a short but fun day hunting 'Rippville' and we didn't get skunked. Molly did her usual thing of sniffing out critter holes to dig in, and Binker & Rikki wore each other out as they ran and played, chased each other and rolled around in the mostly dry (surface) ground.

I put in 2¼ hours of hunting and Gregg stretched his hunt time a little longer. Within maybe 10-15 minutes I snagged a Token GF 5¢ IT, so at least I wasn't skunked. I hunted today with my Nokta Relic w/5" DD coil, 3-Tone, Sensitivity '99', Disc. '5' and Iron Volume '1' which is my saved turn-on mode and settings. There were a few other non-ferrous things like a broken watch back, bullets, cartridge cases and pieces of melted aluminum, but no other 'keepers.'

Gregg was using his Nokta CoRe with the open-frame 5X9½ DD most of the day, switching for a brief period to a Makro Racer 2 and then back to the Nokta CoRe. His day was the opposite of mine in that I got my target soon after I started hunting, whereas Gregg's day was dragging out and I am sure he had the feeling it might be a 'skunked' day .... until his last twenty minutes or so when he found a nice condition 1907 Indian Head 1¢.

We both would have liked to chance upon some silver, but that didn't happen. At least we can add a successful day afield to our start for old-site hunting in 2019, and feel good about the changes in weather that should be welcoming a more enjoyable spring weather pattern in just a few weeks.

I hope others have had an opportunity to get out. Detecting, that is, not out shoveling snow or scraping ice, etc.

Monte

I'm sure Gregg will ad his comments, and most likely Binker took a break in his routine to pose with a nice old coin find.
