10 days, 9 sites and a heck of a good trime!

April 28, 2019 07:05AM
Spent the week + with Oregon Gregg and also some time with Utah Rich, Monte, Remfire and saw DP OR roll by and picked a few tics. Hit 9 different locations including ghost towns, yards, and others. Thanks to Gregg for his generous hospitality during our marathon and to the big guy upstairs for not letting the sinkhole swallow our truck as it collapsed under us.

As many of you know, doodads are too numerous to list, but I've included a few highlights. Most were found with my special edition Seated V3i outfitted with a Barber 5.3 coil running an alkaline dessert program. I think it's ghost town approved, but i haven't quite convinced Monte:-)

Pics
- finds photo on location including coins, tokens, a silver thimble, a 14k ghost town gold ring, 2 civil war period eagle buttons, garment clips, ang some intact glassware.
- tokens including a 'un sou' Montreal token minted in 1837/8 by banks due to coin shortages and apparently worn by the owner. The stories that could tell making its way from Canada to an 1860s oregon gold field. I matched a $2.50 token found last year, but will let Gregg tell the story. Also an OK vending token used as a slot payout or racketeering token.
- 1909s barber quarter which was my quest as they have eluded me for 6 years...found on the last day! I didn't want to dig the signal to avoid disappointment! 1887s seated dime found in the same hole with 2 square nails and a steel round button. AND...an 1851 TRIME!!!! Never did i think id find one in Oregon. Walked into the old road to find a halfway quiet spot to ground balance, swung the detector a foot away, and got a solid 48. Scuffed away the dust, and there lay this tiny disk. Many of us has driven over or stepped on this any number of times.
- the sinkhole that nearly swallowed us up...3 feet deep and about that across. Snowmelt had undercut the culvert.
- one more with the nice skeleton key.

Yes, we generally accept the EQ-800 as being Ghost Town worthy, however ....
