Not an 'official' Outing, just a friendly 'Good ol' boys' get-together.

Incredible discovery! 3 amazing coins! I wish I could come to one of the outings... Schedules just dont seem to line up! If there is one around September, I would be able to do that, but I have done alright staying within half an hour from home so far.. Huge congrats! Never thought I would see a trime come up in oregon!
Some arrived earlier than others and some stayed a day or two longer, and that get-together just happened to come at a time that worked out. The 'local' guys, Oregon Gregg and me, plus Remfire from Central Oregon, and Zincoln from way over in Western Oregon and Rich (Utah) from Northern Utah. I think Zincoln had the longer drive but it was pretty close to what Rich (Utah) made. A couple of others we had hoped would make it but with the WTHO starting on the 9th in Ogden, Utah, that might have cut in on their travel and hunt timing.

The sites, which included a total of 4 ghost town locations in Oregon and 2 over in Idaho, are all close enough to the Vale (where I live) and Nyssa (where Oregon Gregg lives) area that they are all easy-to-visit 1-Day jaunts.

Since you're having difficulty working in a schedule to come on over for a visit, I welcome you to plan one for later in the year and come enjoy some old-site challenges. I'm sure Oregon Gregg would also try and work a day or two into his schedule, if possible, to try and add more flavor and excitement to his annual old-coin finds, too. If you let me know in advance I'll also share the casual, friendly visit with a few other guys and perhaps they can also work in a day or two.

You have been doing OK close-to-home, that's true, but it's always fun, and educational, to hunt a variety of sites and learn to deal with new challenges. Such as in the case of several of these sites, or at least parts of them, I'd guess you haven't experienced dense iron debris challenges like these can toss your way. But old stuff can be found in many locations. I've managed to find 8 Large Cents which we usually associate with hunting in the Eastern US and not 'Out West.'

The last one, #8, was found at 'Lost' which is one of the ghost town sites near me that we hunted this trip. Large Cent #7 was found at the stage stop in Huntsville, Utah, and #6 was from 'Twin Flats' Utah, my all-time favorite hunt site. But Larger Cents #1 thru #5 were all from the Portland, Oregon metro area from Portland proper to Oregon City and down a ways out of McMinnville.

I've found Large Cent, 2¢, 3¢, Half-Dimes, Shield 5¢ and other older coins in Oregon although the bulk of my oldest coins have come from Utah with Oregon #2, and Nevada, Arizona and California kind of tied for 3rd place. Just remember, your family's property has given up some good 'keepers' to you and your detecting family, but sometimes they take some patient search time, and while nice finds they are fewer in number. While there are exceptions, most of the older town sites had more people and more activity, but also have a lot of debris, brush and iron challenges to deal with. Good coins and trade tokens or neat smaller artifacts often don't come in big numbers from these places, either, but just the anticipation of their potential adds to the 'thrill of the hunt.'

I hope you can make the journey over this way for a day or two or three as it can be a rewarding experience. On this outing some participants had an above average success rate.

Yes, we generally accept the EQ-800 as being Ghost Town worthy, however ....
