No unique finds for me, but I'll add my comments, anyway.

Once again we had another WTHO that brought many of our 'regulars' together to participate in all the fun, as well as three 'first timers' who also got the opportunity to enjoy some adventures in a world of dense iron discards, especially a sea of rusted tin to challenge even the best of us. At least two of them are now on the WTHO Contact List to be informed of future adventures in an assortment of hunting sites and challenges. Being around and mingling with so many really great people just adds to the rewards we get from participation on the Outings.smileys with diet Dr. Pepper float

My crappy health and mobility limitations kept me from hunting the more challenging sites, and that seemed to be the places that produced the most 'keepers' for the successful folks. Of course there's no guarantee that we can each find success, even in the older or more potentially-productive sites because we have to be the ones who puts a coil over a good target, but just being there and enjoying the experience is a big part of the fun.

I can't hunt for long periods anymore, but we did have a couple of places that had reasonably workable conditions for me and I did my best ... but was Learning Distracted. No, not Learning Disabled, just Learning Distracted as I put in the bulk of my search time using the new XP ORX w/5X9 HF search coil. The XP product line is totally new to me, and the ORX appealed to be because it fits my 3-point detector requirement of being 'Simple' yet 'Functional' while providing ample 'Performance' to be a good 'fit' in someone's detector outfit ... and I've determined the ORX makes a wonderful 'fit' in my own Regular-Use Detector Team as a General Purpose unit.

I did put my Nokta FORS Relic and FORS Core and Tesoro Bandido II µMAX to work a little on the last day of the Outing, but enjoyed using and learning the strengths and weaknesses of the ORX. Most appealing was the very lightweight feel and balance of this device, although I do have a couple of gripes about the physical packaging. But performance wise, it is very capable.

No coins or trade tokens for me, but in the mix of miscellaneous metal recoveries I did have some buttons, doo-dads, buckles and a lot of those "sure sounded-good" non-ferrous targets that just begged to be recovered only to let-you-down. But that's all part of the game we join in to play that tests our patience and endurance.

I always set out to learn something new or refresh my memory of things I have learned in the past whenever I am using or watch others using a detector. I had the opportunity to experience such things when some of the participants checked out their detectors, coils and settings on an assortment of unobservable test samples I use as well as some test scenarios I have relied on for over a quarter-century to evaluate the performance of different makes and models. There's no 'perfect' detector so we can all learn various strengths and weakness we should be knowledgeable of and prepared to deal with.

For ME, I confirmed that my choices of 'Simple' and 'Functional' detectors works well for me as I saw some of the more adjustment-featured models not perform very well with some 'custom settings' people use. I also learned that some search coil types or sizes also do not provide the anticipated performance one might expect. Additionally, George L. and I both learned how to make some operating frequency changes on both the Equinox 800 and ORX that enhances their performance on a tough test or two that can be helpful in some hunt site challenges we might encounter.

From my viewpoint, I also got to enjoy the beauty of the wildflowers and other vegetation, some of the remaining structures and building rubble, depressions and foundations, the beautiful days as well as passing thunderstorms, and best of all, I didn't encounter a single snake, rattler or otherwise, on the entire week I w as down there! Miss Rikki also got in a a lot of running and playing and also enjoyed the out-of-doors experiences which made her 'vacation' from home fun for her. Except most of the time we were not in the same location as Binker & Molly so she had to make do with some self-enjoyment time.

Along with the scenery I enjoy I also had the greatest pleasure of being around a really terrific group of enthusiasts who usually make the WTHO's and that always is a rewarding experience. Then there is the enjoyment of seeing what others found and listening to their experiences as they tell their story about the finds they made.

In short, I had a lot of fun, enjoyed my detecting time, made some interesting yet not exciting finds, and learned a lot. That makes the outing all good. Now, to find a couple of new and interesting places to work on the next WTHO which I hope to fit one in this August or September if possible.

An enjoyable and interesting get-together, weather was great, and simply a pleasurable week away. Always want to visit with the 'regular' folks and meet others.

I hope readers who haven't experienced an Outing will try to fit one into their schedule in the future.
