Battery test

Revisiting the military area I have been hunting of late, I found a”keen kutter” pocket knife with wood scales which were mostly gone. I have been returning often while we are having false spring in the hopes of finding some personal item lost by the GIs. I have found a dog tag and a religious medal at other sites and know of two rings and a set of major’s insignia found by others, so I go with fingers crossed!

After finding the knife I hunted around in a widening circle and located a couple of blank .30-06 cartridges from the Utah Ordinance Plant, one of the less common head stamps, and two D cell batteries buried under a tree. I gave found lots of different batteries ranging from antique to modern, but never one with a readable paper label. Note the “use by” date, 3-44.

No coinage or valuables, but a little bit of history.
