That's a rarity to find that much detail on on a steel penny considering over 75 years. nice finds.

Our club was hunting an old CCC encampment that was then used as a hike-in picnic area until the latter '50s or early '60s. I believe it was April of '87 when my hunting buddy found a beautiful 1943 steel cent around a fire pit. I knew Debbie's original Tesoro Silver Sabre wouldn't have responded to that coin, but she said it was with another penny. Very mineralized ground, too, but sometimes it's all a matter of the ground mineral make-up, any added chemicals, and also nearby or in-contact metal objects. I think it can sometimes help halt or slow some bad-target deterioration.

Of course, that was just 44 years after it was minted, but it did look great. The last few I have found were as recent as about ten years ago, and they were still readable and in spendable-condition so they would have been about 67 years old. That s aid, I have also found a couple that were in really bad condition, but I expected it due to the ground environment,
