The weatherman promised Wednesday was going to be a very nice day so a friend and I went to a place I have been waiting to get into until the roads dry out. I have been there three prior times and never found anything significant, and even though there is a working well, there isn‘t any sign of buildings or even foundations, and there isn’t much modern litter. There is however, an abundance of small pieces of tin, ranging from dime size to - well, you know. Very hard hunting at this site.
We found a few ghost town items; a couple buttons, a broken pocket knife, old cartridges, leather rivets, etc, and my buddy found a key ring of old keys including the skeleton type and several for old desk or trunks. Really a cool find!
My best for the day was an 1889 Indian head which filled my annual goal of finding an 1800s coin within 100 miles of my home. (According to Google maps it was 51 miles.) It’s tough to find coins that old because our settlements are so new.
A doe antelope came to see what we were up to and stayed for a couple hours, even lying down at one point about 40 yards from us.
