Detectors and coils for hunting iron trash. It does get interesting.thinking

Compare the 9" round deus coil to anfibio 5" coil. I think they both have some advantages over each other. I think the anfibio 5" has a separation advantage over deus 9" in the heavy littered trash sites. Deus 9" definitely has depth advantage. Deus is still way lighter with 9" coil than anfibio with 5".
Have to agree on the differences in depth capability as well as separation. However, that 5" DD on some models can provide surprising depth compared with a lot of the competition, and the 9" on a Deus or ORX can also show some impressive separation performance. The fact is, an 'OOR' or 5" on some Nokta / Makro models deserve a lot of consideration as does a 9" or 5X9½ on an XP Deus or ORX ... all depending on the modes and settings chosen and how the coils are worked in an area.

The more I use anfibio the more I like it, and am starting to really like the audio language. Getting to the point now where I can tell all that busted/rusted tin signals.
Glad to hear that. As you stated ... "learning the language" ... can be an important education for a lot of people, but that also depends on the particular make and model detector and how the circuitry design works to convey target responses. Some models I use have a very useful 'language' and you can audibly classify a lot of targets, while other makes and models have a more processed audio that seems to lack an understandable language ... if you know what I mean.

Even within a particular brand, some models have different audio qualities. For example, I much prefer the audio of my CoRe and Relic over that of the Kruzer and Anfibio series. I feel it's partly due to their waterproof design and the digital signal processing they use. I even like the Simplex audio over the Anfibio, yet it is also a bit different from the CoRe and Relic.

It can also be the particular mode or number of audio tones used. On the Nokta and Makro devices, I like the 2-Tone and 3-Tone audio of the different modes on my CoRe, Relic and Simplex +, but I am not too much of a fan of the 4-Tone or 5-Tone or the 99-Tone (actually 85-Tones) on models like the Impact, Multi-Kruzer or Anfibio Multi. And I prefer the 3-Tone Coin modes on the XP ORX but get totally annoyed by the 'full-tones' on an XP Deus. A lot boils down to each individual and how well we hear and might like or dislike what some models have to offer.

I think a better comparison would be the deus 9x5 coil VS the anfibio 5". I think deus 9x5 will separate slightly better especially when you bump deus into the 26 kHz range.
I have found it very tough to match the separation and performance in very dense iron debris of almost any Nokta / Makro model with an 'OOR' or 5" DD coil ... keeping two very proven models at-the-ready with their small DD coils for the toughest of challenges.

XP doesn't offer a smaller-size coil than the 5X9½ DD HF, but I do like that mid-size coils on an ORX simply because you pointed out an advantage the XP models have, and that is the ability to select an operating frequency. I have a 5X9½ DD on my 2nd CoRe and one for my Relic, also. My CoRe w/5X9½ compared with the ORX w/5X9½ shows the CoRe to get a little better depth-of-detection afield when using comparable frequencies. The CoRe is 15 kHz and my 5 User Coin program is at 14.4 kHz. However, in a couple of tough iron nail / screw challenges, the ORX has the performance edge when I switch to my program 6 User Coin that I have at 31.3 kHz.

No 'perfect' detector out there so it's always good to have a few different detectors and coils in an Outfit to be able to grab the best of them for different tasks we encounter.

Both great machines in the ghost towns. I'm gonna say deus/orx and anfibio are the 2 best ghost town machines a guy could have right now. All my opinion of course.
In that case I'll add my 'opinion' and agree with the Deus / ORX with the right settings and coil, but my personal opinion and experiences afield have me favoring the FORS CoRe and FORS Relic over the Anfibio with all of them using their smaller-size coil. For me, the CoRe and Relic have a much better audio quality, and I also prefer their balance and feel. But they all have somewhat similar DNA, so to speak, and like anything it's all a matter of personal preference.

Favorite coils for each is anfibio 5" & 7" concentric. Deus 9" X35 and 9x5 Hf coil. I really like deus 9" Hf coil also but prefer the X35 cause have more freq options.
For general-purpose hunting I like a Nokta / Makro model with a mid-size coil, and that could be the 7" Concentric or 5X9½ DD, but for the trashiest environments that have a lot of iron in the mix, the 'OOR' or 5" DD coils are top picks. In the XP line there isn't a smaller-size coil and for me, the best all-purpose coil to help handle some of those trashier areas as well is the 5X9½ DD HF coil. I had the round 9" coil and it's an 'OK' general-purpose coil but not the best pick for really tough challenges.

Still, with what you have, you do have the bases covered, so to speak, to handle low-to-modestly littered sites to the really challenging debris conditions. Just get out and use the equipment more often and, perhaps, you get over that 2-coin streak you're on.
