I am asking why your valuable coin finds are so factory mint.
Without any soil remainder on its.
Most of our "old coin finds" are not nearly as old as some from other countries around the world. For example, a nice 1906 Indian Head Cent is only 114 years old. We might recover a silver Mercury Dime from 1943 and that's only 77 years old. Also, many of the coins we find are not in really terrific condition .... but some of them are. Every year I recover silver coins that shine after a good rubbing on the leg of my trousers, or a copper Cent that, with a little cleaning, looks fantastic. No, not all of them, but many can.

Look at the photos of the 12th WTHO in this Forum posted by OregonGregg. He found a brass Trade Token in one of the old RR ghost towns and he posted photos of it's 'as-found' condition. It looked pretty crappy. Then he posted photos of it after a little cleaning at the motel room and it was almost hard-to-believe .... unless you know the cleaning methods we use. Not all of the coins we find come out of the ground caked in mud, and then we clean them up to be more presentable.

And why you put coins on top of some over-designed detectors.
Is this related to detector marketing more than real finds?
Joel likes some of those "over-designed" detectors, such as the Nokta / Makro Anfibio-Multi or his favorite, the XP Deus. If he used the "over-designed" detector to find the good stuff, that's what he uses to display his finds on. I wouldn't say it was detector marketing as much as he just likes to show the detector and coil he used to make the particular find. There might be a wee dab of marketing involved, but that's to be expected by many in this great sport.
