#2.. Consider what something new or different might offer.

#3.. The best way to do that is by putting one in your hand and work it side-by-side with what you already have that is proven to be likeable and useful.

#4.. Try not to get too caught up in all the individual's claims about any particular make or model on internet Forums. Their sites, their wants and needs, and their experiences are generally different from yours.

over time have become convinced the 600,or the 800 eq is the go to detector for trashed parks.

I'm convinced that for some people, the Equinox models seem to satisfy them more than what they had been using. Their happy and content, and that's good. I am NOT convinced an Equinox model is a "go-to" detector for me in littered parks because, while it worked, it didn't exceed some of the detectors I already have, or some that I have used in the past couple of years. Being 'OK' doesn't cut it in my book. When it comes to detector selection for my personal detector team, I expect to have better-than-OK results in performance, in comfort and control, and in simplicity of operation. I want something as-good-as or more often better-than what I currently use.

i am curious as to how the apex will perform in 'cooked" parks too! want to see more on the apex, before i make a decision.

I aam also curious about the new Garrett APEX and it's be belief that they made a wrong decision and muddied the water by coupling it with their 'budget-line' ACE series. Bad move, from the way I look at it. The APEX, by name alone, ought to be positioned higher than, and not associated with, the ACE series. It should have initiated its own new 'series' for future development. It doesn't share any of the ACE series search coils, and from what I have seen it is providing much improved adjustment functions and in-the-field audio response performance than the lowly ACE series.

I've owned and used a lot of different 'Simultaneous Multi-frequency' models for over a couple of decades and I learned how some of them had some strengths, but they also come with some weaknesses as well. I am pleased to see them offer selectable frequencies with the APEX, and that alone got more of my interest in the model. But as I suggested, I won't know until I get an APEX in-hand and have the opportunity to put it to work along side a couple of other performers I like.

have to admit, not too enamored over the eq's build quality. getting reports now, that some of them are "leaking!"
(h.h.!)
j.t.
The Equinox 'leakage' issues isn't a recent thing. There have been reports of issues ever since its release. There are other things folks have complained about related to "build quality" but in some cases they were minor things and fixable.

Am I saying the Equinox 800 is a terrible detector? Nope. I bought one and, using the 6' DD coil, I could see where it offered some performance capability and it was a comfortable set-up to use. But at the time, for me and the sites I was mainly hunting, it didn't provide any better performance afield as models I already had, and fell short in some comparisons. Good detector, just not for me at the time.
