Forest fire smoke is blocking the sun, making it a few degrees cooler but not so pleasant to be outside. Still, I couldn’t pass up the chance to hunt a cooler morning. I parked in a known 1943 military area, turned on my machine, walked 100 feet and got a good dime signal. Sure enough, a worn 1918 Merc. A few circles around that spot revealed a 1941 nickel, a steel penny, and a rusty ration can, all within 6 feet of the dime. The dime made me wonder if it was a civilian drop but the nickel and steel penny convinced me otherwise.
I continued hunting for another 90 minutes but only found a couple of nails and a shotgun shell base. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good!
I was using a Deus with the 9” X35 coil and my favorite custom program, although I did try the #4 Pitch program a bit. I also used the #1 Basic program sort of like an “all metal” setting by turning up iron volume and turning “discrimination” down to zero. The Basic program is next to my custom program, so I could walk faster in Basic and then quickly switch over to check the target with the custom program.
