Congratulations on an awesome find! I used to work out at Mercur in the 90’s, in 96 the mining was starting to wind down and part of the reclamation work was all of the old tailings below the golden gate mill foundation had to be cleaned up and processed. We cut down almost thirty feet before we got to the original ground level, there were wood scraps every where at the native ground level. I’m not sure if it was the Cyanide used to process the ore or lack or oxygen that preserved the wood so well. During lunch I used to wander around and one day I came across the piece of a crate that is in the picture, I saw it
from a distance and thought I was seeing things when I could read Mercur, Utah on it. I wish I’d been into detecting back then, anyway congratulations again on an amazing find!
