Andrew----Reading/studying your post questions---it looks like you have a total of nine questions.---I will try (IMO) to answer them in the order they were asked (1 through 9).--------(1) I definitely welcome the challenge of trashy areas. These days, I feel there are far more targets in difficult/trashy areas than there are at depth. It takes a different style of detecting but if done right the rewards can be worth it.--------(2) Depending on the area/situation of course but iron/target masking can be a serious problem.-------(3) I prefer a detector with target I.D. because then you have both--target I.D. AND beep & dig. Why settle for less?-------(4) Coil size is important. A small coil is needed for the areas we are speaking of as we are trying to separate targets & not going for depth in the first place. Having said that, certain units with a medium size coil can do surprisingly well.-------(5) Yes, I use adjustable iron audio (and love it).--------(6) Personally (unlike many others) I prefer solid individual beep audio over blended audio. You just have to realize it needs time to re-set itself & go slooow.--------(7) Target I.D. is not that important with target/iron masking. The #'s get drug down/distorted anyway. Audio is king in these situations.--------(8) I will sort of repeat myself on this question. Audio is VERY important with target/iron masking.-------(9) Now that question is a a tough one! I would never hunt these type of sites with just one detector/coil combo. One reason being there is almost always a lot of busted tin in these types of sites.-----I have yet to find a detector/coil combo that excels at handling/working both busted tin & iron at the same time. What one works well at, the other doesn't do so well at (and vice versa).-------I have one detector/coil combo that comes close at both but it still doesn't win the prize.--------Well, this is my "book"----haven't typed so much in ages.--------Take it for what it's worth to you.-------As a preacher friend once said "chew up the meat & spit out the bones"!
