Tried out the Zincoln Approved 7" Detech coil today.......

November 01, 2020 10:08PM avatar
Headed out to Rippville this morning. Called Monte but apparently, he stayed up all night working on those detector test/evaluations and wasn't feeling perky this morning. Remfire called last night and asked if we were going to go. I said yes and to get on over here. Low and behold he showed up 30 minutes after I got there. Was good seeing Roger again and we had a fun day.

I only used two machines ( MXT & M6) and one coil, the Detech 7" coil. I started off with the MXT. Started to find a few ghost town doodads ( suspender parts etc) and after a bit I snagged a nice Jack Clifford Token good for 10¢. So that made my day, I wasn't going home skunked.

I was very pleased with how the coil performed. Almost forgot how hard the MXT and M6 locks on to targets. It was fun using those machines again. In the spots that I did encounter some iron/rusted tin, that little coil did well. I intentionally went to an area that I know is pretty trashy with iron etc. I worked that for a bit. A coin or token would have been nice, but my intention was to see if it could pull any non-ferrous target. In all that junk it did lock on good to a small cap that you would screw on to your valve stem. So I was happy with that....it was enough to make me satisfied that if needed it could tackle a decent degree of trash and still get some results. I also noticed, and it's been about 5 years or so since I used these machines on a daily basis ( that's when I started my Nokta Makro craze starting with the Red Racer) but unlike my Nokta and Makro machines that love rusted tin and gives good tones and VDI readings all day long, the MXT and M6 set up in C&J mode and disc set to knock out nails that it would most times give a splattering clipped sound on that stuff. It seemed I didn't have to fight that stuff near as bad. So I am going to give that some more attention next Spring. It some more spots with lots of rusted tin and see how it goes.

Anyhow after the trashy site test, I walked back to the PU and put the 7" Detech coil on the M6. As it turns out for me I enjoyed swinging the M6 over the MXT. I headed back out and was working along a ditch that most times is covered with weeds but the cows thinned it out. Pretty soon I got a nice tone that said 50¢ and all my little confidence bars were lit up. But I didn't get too excited as they used to use alum. siphon tubes years ago to irrigate with and broken chunks of them have been left behind and ring in a nice 50¢ and or 1$ readings. I pinpointed and it seemed small and coin size. I dug it out and to my surprise, it was an 1894 Barber Quarter. That made me happy, but I wondered why it rang in as a 50¢ piece. I did some air test with the quarter and it rang in as a quarter and also as a 50¢ piece. It appears on the larger silver that it wants to at times upscale the reading. I tried a nickel and it came in dead on as a nickel reading.

All in all I was happy with the coil and prob will stay on the M6 most the time. I plan to use that combo more next year in my lite trashy open areas.

It was nice to come home with a few nice keepers to end the year. Boomer had a great time running around in the wide open area.

Roger also got a couple nice keepers and sure he will prob post them soon. He had a bit more of a drive than I did to get back home.
