Day 4 was cut short, we couldn't go out in fields until 11 am because of all the rain. But I did find a few nice things. Eagle I cuff button, GS coat button and some bullets. At the bottom of picture 1 is a complete 3 piece Shaler Bullet.
Invented by Ira Shaler in 1862, the three piece Shaler bullet was intended to increase hits out of the . 58 caliber rifle muskets. But the troops hated them because of the large powder charge and they weren't very accurate. So most troops quietly discarded them. They are generally only found in VA.
Picture 2 is the base of a .58 minnie ball. Notice the star. The star indicates the bullet came from the Washington DC arsenal.
Overall I'm happy with today's finds as I found a few firsts for me.
