machines and coils

Hi Del,

The V3i did fine. I used the 4x6 sharpshooter which perform nearly flawlessly as measured by a nail board....and also a 7" Detec. Finds were just tough in general on coins/tokens.

In addition, i used the IDX pro w/ the 3.5" sharpshooter. Its a great combo, but with single tone, its really slows you down and makes you focus hard on every single signal...which gets daunting when you have 50 signals in a 3 foot square area in an old use site....most of which are tin or nails.

Found one token w/ the V3i and 7", and one w/ the IDX and 3.5", Gold and silver recoveries also came w/ the IDX in a very small area i hit upon with exception of eyeglass half which came w/ the V3i/4x6 combo in a different location.

Found tons of non ferrous targets with both machines, but just didn't manage to get over coins. At least 5 of the 6 Gregg found, he covered ground I didn't cover....so will never know if his machines choices were the difference maker or not.

I do know that i ran a little test. Put a quarter on the ground in a nasty area and it hit just fine - had what seemed like a 3-4" area w/ no major contamination under it. Put it 2" under the surface, and no hit at all. Moved it again, and was able to get a signal you probably would dig if you were paying attention. Came back and tried to find it a bit later, and couldn't. SO many nails and tin carpeting the ground at varying layers that it just wiped out the signal. We know this happens as Joel can attest...but it goes to show that know matter how you set up a machines or how small of a coil you use, it can prove fruitless even when you know you have a quarter <$2" under the surface! Not one to dig/screen, but you can see why its done.

Best to you,
