1.. You liked 'home' the way it was when you were there.
2.. 'Home' hasn't changed for the worse since you left it.
3.. The individual hasn't changed much over time and they can appreciat what they had.
As a Utah native, I was born in Ogden and move to Portland Oregon when I was 10. By comparison, the Ogden I grew up in from '49 to '59 had more of a small town or medium town 'feel' in that you felt more secure at home we're moving about town of foot oh, and more people were friendly and courteous inconsiderate. That "Home Town" comfort level is not there anymore. Way too many people, a different type of people and an obvious different culture of people these days. I still like parts of the town and some of the people in some areas oh, but it's not the same.
Them, except for a couple of brief periods when I was away, I lived in the Portland Oregon metro area from June of 1959 until September of 2013. That's so long time to live in an area where you would become attached or felt like it was home because of how long you were there. And when we move there just outside the Portland city limits, it had a different feel to it from where we had moved from. It was definitely wetter from all the rain, and there were a lot of people but it was, let me say adaptable at the time.
But as time passed, and the population grew a lot and the city area expanded with the population growth, and business growth and various Transit growth, and a change in how the cultures were spread out, it definitely changed a lot. I would say that by 1985 I didn't care for the density of people, amount of traffic, and just be attitudes of the people. Both politically and just from an everyday standpoint of likability.
So when I get thinking about the saying, "There's no place like home," I no longer think of a specific location as being home, but a location that gives me that good home-town feeling, similar to how you describe where you are now. So actually moving to Clyde Texas where I've never lived before is different however, it has that Hometown feeling.
