1870's House backyard field: old garden site.

I guess it has been more than 30 years since I first got a permission to hunt this place.
The old owner who allowed me to hunt purchased it right after WW II and did a lot of upgrading, remodeling
and added a couple of additions to the original house. He also dug out the Michigan cellar and made it
a full basement. He told me that they dug it out by hand and hauled the dirt to the back yard and dumped it,
which covered up a lot of the original yard. My hunts there, as I remember, there were no "old coins", but maybe
8-10 merc and rosie silver dimes and probably wheaties. I don't remember anything else interesting recovered
there.. never hunted in the back garden field, it was used early spring to late fall and plowed every year for 50+ years.

The old owner has passed, and his grandson now owns the property which is a rental. The old vegetable garden
site is now just a field, and this summer we had a couple very heavy rains which flooded the area, leaving
standing water for more than a month. Now it's all dead grass. The renters moved out and I received permission
to hunt again. My only hunting for September was the edges of the back yard and the garden field, probably
3 - 4 hours max. Finds there included: A few wheaties, a couple of "mercs", a silver Washington 25c. and a
nice 1937 Buffalo. Also there was some relic-like stuff and lots of scrap metal. Scrap probably 2-3 : 1 trash to
treasure. I dug most everything looking for Indians and unusual items. Two pieces of metal appear to be perhaps
Parts of a lead backed belt buckle. Oldest coin a 1926 Lincoln cent. Not a single Indian c.
Interesting stamped brass flower, that I don't know what it would have been from.
