Am I trying to find some new Outing Locations for next year? Definitely, and any and all suggestions from you can help me out.
But next year is just that, NEXT year, and I have had phone calls and e-mails from quite a few who wished they could have made our 14th Outing that ended on June 19th but they had a few conflicts that prevented it. It appears, among other reasons, work schedules didn’t let them fit it in. Most wondered if we are still going to have another Outing this year, and my decision was Yes, we are. I took a quick look at numbers and averages to make a decision, and this is what I got:
1.. We just finished our 11th Outing working the ghost towns and related nearby places out of Wells, Nevada. Our 1st WTHO was in May of 2015 and we had 17 attendees who all detected, and with all prior Outings we had 15 to 25 people make each get-together.
2.. On those 10 WTHO's we recovered ±90 US Coins, so we ‘averaged’ about 9 Coins per Outing.
3.. On our just-concluded 14th WTHO we had 13 attendees but only 12 who were able to detect. However, a quick tally of US Coins found on June’s Outing I get ±24.
Is there an explanation of why more US coins this last outing with a few fewer people searching? Possibly, and I figure some of the credit goes to search technique. That is, more people who hunted at a slower, more methodical sweep rate in those brushy and Iron contaminated sites. We might add to that the number who were using a smaller-size search coil to get in and under and around the brush and trash better. Naturally the detector and coil chosen can make a big difference, and of course the settings used. I have found it best to use as low a Disc. setting as possible to hear the ferrous debris present and then carefully work around it to unmask any good targets. One of the important ingredients in success is patience. The more patient we are allows us to concentrate on our efforts to cover a site more thoroughly.
So, for our final Outing of the year, we are going to make it cover 9-Days which can allow a lot of people the opportunity to work it into their schedule. All of it or part of it. I will be booking my room for the entire WTHO and hope others will check in with me daily so I can record their progress and results, get their comments, and feedback for any good hunt locations for the future. This is a
'Last Hurrah' for this year’s get-togethers as well as a final WTHO based out of Wells, Nevada. It is obvious the old sites are not cleaned out. Thinned, perhaps, but there are still a lot of desirable targets that might just be a bit masked, even though a lot of the recent finds were in eyeball sight on top of the ground or just very slightly under.
