I made it down for Friday the 2nd thru Sunday the4th and had to get back home. Although short & hot, it was a fun time. I managed a couple of coins and more important got to see and visit with UtahRich, Kickndirt, and Monte and run into UtMike and his wife. It was good to see them all again.
Friday I started the day in Toano and it wasn't long UtahRich got a V Nickel. So the contest had officially started

I hunted the rest of the day only finding ghost town doodads. Saturday I give Cobre a shot and finally scrounged up a no date Buffalo nickel. I knew it wasn't going to beat UtahRich, but in my mind, I was very happy as I knew I would at least not go home skunked. I then went back to Toano and joined up with the rest of them.
I was thinking, Boy!!! I'll have to hang it up if I lose the contest to a V nickel. So I hunkered down. The only thing to beat a V nickel with is a Shield nickel. Late in the afternoon, the detector goods looked down favorably on poor ol'OregonGregg and I actually snagged an 1866 Shield nickel.
I felt better and thought 1866 might hold out for oldest date.....................but we will have to see after UtahRich posts. Will I get dinner or will I be going online and sending him a Chuck-A-Rama Buffet gift certificate ???????
Sunday turned out to be a No Coin day, but found a neat 1901 sheep ear tag, neat relics and a neat piece of jewerly.
Despite the hot brutal sun it was a fun 3 days and was glad to catch up with some folks and visit.
Oh ya, Only used the CoRe and oor coil the whole time.
