I had a permission hunt around the corner from me. Old property and buddy was told by the son that their father had buried his guns on a hill. We went over, I took my Apex with the Reaper coil but turned out the hill is still frozen so will have to try to recover them for the family when things thaw out more. In the meanwhile I detected for a bit around their old barn where the grass was a bit tall that kept the ground diggable. Found a few old items including a 41 merc and what looks like a Massachusetts Commonwealth Colonial. Can't make out the date and don't want to try to clean it but they were 1787-1788.
Apex did handle the grounds very well, no complaints on depth as the merc was good 10" down. Big coil did make pinpointing bit tricky.
When it warm and thaws, maybe you'll be able to find the firearms. I know a worker conveyed to me a 'genera' location in Oregon where some John Birchers hid firearms in air tight, waterproof containers and buried their firearms. That was back in the mid-'70s and I've always wondered how many were never retrieved.
Good finds on the silver Merc. and old Mass. Colonial. Better weather is coming.
The Apex is a much better detector than some imagine.
