It is an actual, in-the-field encounter with an Indian Head Cent laying among four Iron Nails. All you have to do is reject the four Iron Nails and sweep across the Nails and Cent with the center of the coil from four directions to produce a possible 8 good hits on the Penny. You would be surprised how many detector & coil combinations are terrible performers. Some might get 6 out-of-8 or even 7-out-of-8, but that is often with a controlled sweep.
Sometimes it is the search coil size or type that has a problem, and other times it is the detector's design that doesn't low for a quick-response ands fast-recovery. Even my Fisher F5 with that tiny-sized 4¼" Concentric coil fails to pass the NBT. Work very dense, super trashy old sites with building rubble and a lot of Iron Nails and you will want a small coil, hooked up to a good-working detector.
Fortunately, I have a few that are really good!
