Remfire, about wireless headphones and run-time.

Did you get wireless headphones yet? I was inquiring about whether they effect detector battery life. It seems since I got them my batteries have only lasted 4-6 hours. Maybe I'll have to run a timer like Monte.
I have the Makro 2.4 Gig wireless headphones and have not had a problem with run-time with my detector. I have the dongle in my Gold Racer as I'll be using the 56 kHz unit when the summer heat arrives and those headphones are very comfortable when nit gets hot.

As soon as I get my new wireless headphones for the Impact, I will likely be using them all-the-time. That will also give me a better idea of any effect the headphones might have on battery drain with the detector. The new Nokta Impact does use more battery power than my three FORS series or two Racer series models, but since I am keeping track of battery use, using the internal speaker or my Killer-B 'Hornet' headphones, I will monitor a set or two of batteries using the wireless headphones and compare battery draw, if any.

I used to have one of those little stopwatches that I would stick on my detector and keep notes on the start-to-stop run-time. I ought to try and find one of those little devices as they ought to cost less than the one I used back in the mid and late '80s when I was evaluating all types of batteries. Right now I am just checking my phone clock and logging the times from turn-on to turn-off and putting those in a notebook I take with me.

Oh, one thing to mention is I do recall a time when I had a set of wireless headphones and had the same incident occur when I was using a set of corded headphones and noticed excessive battery drain. I happened to be using the same brand of batteries even though these two events happened about two or three years apart. I figured out the reason for both of the shorter battery operating times was, but I wasn't operating the detector while the batteries were draining.

Instead, I had left the headphones plugged in and couldn't hear the speaker, just like using the wireless headphones and couldn't hear the speaker. With my impaired hearing, I had set the detector and headphones on the back sear of my vehicle, bit forgot to turn the detector 'Off.'

I almost did it again last year in Nevada on an outing. I was done for a while as my back was killing me so I set the detector and headphones on the back seat. I was going to just drive over to get closer to another hunt area, and remembered I didn't have the charging cord for the headphones when I noticed the blue light flashing on the side ear cup.

So I figured after lunch I'd just use my corded headphones and after eating a sandwich I got the headphones off the back seat so I could turn them 'Off' and no sooner than I turned off the headphones, my detector speaker was alive and well and hollered at me when I moved it and the coil close to the door! I had forgotten to turn the detector off as well, and I did that once with the corded headphones I hadn't unplugged from the detector. I set them in the vehicle, and since I couldn't hear the headphones once I set them on the back seat by the detector, I couldn't hear that I forgot to turn the detector off and it drained the batteries by the next morning when I went out detecting again.
