Beautiful landscape!
This was one of the three Gold Mining Ghost Town 'sites' we used for our Welcome-to-Hunt Outing this past June here in Eastern Oregon. We had a great turn-out and several participants posted photos or videos of at least two of the locations in their results and comments posts in the following thread. You ought to scroll through them from the long below.

6th WTHO in June 2017

I'd always thought "lone tree" was an actual place name of an old town.
But now I believe I understand better.
Since about 1969 or so I started giving a 'name' to various places I love to detect. For example, my all-time favorite, and most productive old ghost town site (it has surrendered hundreds of coins to fill 4+ binders of carded 2X2's) since May 4th of that year in Northern Utah, I named 'Twin Flats' ... for three very good reasons. sad smiley

'Lone Tree' and 'Lonesome Arch' were names I 'coined' for two of the three Eastern Oregon town sites based upon an apparent physical description, and the other one was named 'Lost' simply as a word association for where she is. I almost used the new name of 'Noonan' for the same reason because he was with her. I do things like that so I can discuss locations with others who I want to know a site, but don't necessarily want to share the place with everyone who overhears a discussion.

I won't post the Gold Mining townsite's name, but most can figure out this 80 year old mystery name. confused smiley thinking

Congrats on a nice find on the nickel.

Thanks for posting such great photos!
Gregg likes to get photos of a lot of his finds or the sites, and Binker likes to ham it up and co-star in many of Gregg's photo shoots.
