Oh, and about "The Finer Art of Metal Detecting Ghost Towns" ...

September 05, 2018 07:14AM avatar
... and other topics I am working on. Since I have some down-time now for recovery and can't get out and about like I would like for a while, I have a table set up where I am working on my book material. I'll find out on October 3rd when I visit with the neurosurgeon if they have the okay to work on my lower spine, and if so I am hoping it can be done in November thru January so I can recoup from that by spring.

Either way, being sidelined a bit now and with winter not all that distant I hope to have my book(s) done by spring and they might have a helpful tip or two for newcomers to this great sport. Might even be a reminder or two for more seasoned Detectorists like you, but you understand the needed skills and techniques for success as it is:

• Choose a detector and search coil combination that are best suited for the site challenges.

• Always appreciate the fact that ferrous debris and rusty shards of tin are going to cause good-target masking.

• Don't speed through a site. Work any area with a slow and methodical sweep, with ample overlapping, and from different angles.

• Always set out to have fun; to learn something new about how a detector and coil work; and always refresh your memory of what you've learned over the years past.

Okay, time for an early morning shower than hit-the-books.
