Didn't need a 'realtity check' ot a flavored beverage ..

.. other than my favorite, Diet Dr. Pepper. It was simply a post to a some readers who e-mail me to ask 'Why?'

WHY do I like the CoRe and Relic?

WHY do I like the Simplex +?

WHY do I like the Tesoro's without a display?

WHY don't I have an Equinox 800?

WHY don't I have a Garrett AT model?

WHY do I like to hunt iron trashy sites?

WHY do I like smaller-size coils or some medium-size coils, and not 'standard' coils or larger-size coils?

WHY do I say to hunt "Slowly and methodically?"

WHY this and WHY that. Trust me, the list goes on and on.

The answers are simple: We ALL might have a favorite brand, or favorite type of site to hunt, or like certain detector features, and we are all of different age, health, mobility, hearing ability and just happen to prefer one thing over another. In my case, I have preferred to own and use more than 2 or 3 detectors since late '71, so that's almost 50 years of habit. And starting my 56th year of detecting next week, I have developed a liking for certain sizes and types of search coils and for certain levels of detector performance to handle a wide variety of detecting environments.

Thus, I settle on a Regular-Use Detector Outfit that is versatile FOR ME AND FOR MY WANTS AND NEEDS, that is made up of different makes and models that satisfy those needs and they can complement each other to provide me the versatility I want. In short, the WHY's are answered with a BECAUSE ----

I rely on the detectors I have BECAUSE

BECAUSE they are light-weight and/or well-balanced.

BECAUSE they are Simple,

BECAUSE they are functional and provide the Performance I want.

BECAUSE they are all proven in the field, to me, for uses I have for them; they are versatile as-designed for specific applications.

BECAUSE, and most of all, they are 'fun' to use.

Some, like my CoRe and Relic, are my premier choices for dense Iron Nail contaminated places, and others are a main-choice for some Coin Hunting use, some for Tot-Lots, and others for hunting Private Yards, Plowed Fields, and so on.

To sum it up, I have selected a group of detectors that are easy for this stumbling old phart to get along with, to help me find stuff, to enjoy the time I devote to this great sport, and ... to have 'fun' doing so.

No detectors are perfect. My favorites can't handle all of the Test Scenarios I put them up against. But they do well enough to keep me happy and the bunch of them can complement each other in some way. If any reader has a Detector Outfit that satisfies them, then that's great as well.
