Simplex + and new 5X9½ DD are working out well so far.

We thought we were over the high heat of Summer when a couple of comfortable days slipped in and the weather forecasters predicted that the rest of August might be in the upper 80s or low to mid-90s. They fibbed!

We've been in the upper 90°s and this coming weekend through Monday they forecast 101° to 103° and I just can't take the heat like I used to so it has limited my opportunity to get out. I've only used it a little bit in the morning at the park in the shade, but plan to put in a little more time this week at a couple of different sites.

No ghost towning trips yet due to the weather and my health but I do plan on working a house renovation site in the next few days to deal with nails and other scattered debris. I have, however, been using it with several of my test scenarios and the fact that it hits 8-out-of-8 on my Nail Board Test was a positive result I was pleased with.

In all honesty, I do have to state that it feels a bit heavier then the 5X9½ DD I have on my Relic. I don't know why they made them a bit heavier, but this one is comfortable enough for me to use for a while .... while I patiently wait for them to make a good smaller-size coil of about 5" to 6½" or so. That would be better for working the very dense trash locations.

One other thing I can add is that this is a good mid-size search coil for many applications, but the more I work with this set-up I am paying more attention to the search coil performance because I am far more than basically satisfied with the excellent Simplex+. I've enjoyed how it works with the standard 11" DD in open grassy areas, but with the 2.77 update it is simply a very impressive detector.

I like having the 11" for wide open areas, and this 5X9½ Double-D for most day-to-day use asI await a smaller size coil to complement this package
