I used it briefly quite a while back. That coil seemed to like the rusted tin a little better and wanted to make all the tin sound great. Although rusted tin gives all detectors a fit, my other coils at times would give clues such as a scratchy audio signal or very jumpy VDI's etc.
That coil didn't wanna do that. Outside of old sites It prob would be a good coil......but I can't say. Will have to wait and see what TimberTodd thinks about it. Plus I had the oor coil for my small coil and the 9.5 x 5 for a mid, both great coils so really didn't need the Mars 7"
I like a lot of 7" coils, and I like both round and elliptical coils, but the type of coil can make a difference. I tried the Mars 7" DD coil on a FORS CoRe for which there is no Concentric coil offered. I also compared it with a similar-size round 7" Concentric coil on a Makro Racer 2 and 7" Concentric on a Nokta Impact, and all of them seemed to work find in a typical urban Coin Hunting environment, but when I checked it out at an old site with rusty tin discards, there was no comparison. The 7" Concentric coils, and the way the circuitry performed on the Racer 2 and Impact, had a definite edge in both audio response and in the visual VDI read-out over the Mars 7" DD coil.
Generally I favor a smaller-size coil for dense trash, and I also like a Concentric coil, when available, over a DD coil. And I generally prefer an elliptical DD as a mid-size coil over a round coil of 7" or larger. For my Nokta Relic I have a 5" and 5X9½ in DD so things are covered there. My Garrett Apex wears the 5X8 DD. My Fisher F-75+ wears the 3½X6½ Concentric, and at-the-ready are a 5" DD and 5X8 DD. My Tesoro Silver Sabre µMAX and Bandido II µMAX each use a round 6" Concentric. My Minelab Equinox 800 has the 6" DD, and Makro Racer 2 is wearing the
'OOR' 4.
7X5.
2 DD. My matching circuitry Bounty Hunter Time Range Pro sports a 5" DD and Fisher F-19 Ltd. wears the 5X10 DD.
No over-size coils as I mainly use my favored small coils and mid-size coils, so while the Mars 7" DD was okay for Coin Hunting or checking out 'fringe areas' of old-use places,
for ME it just didn't have a 'fit' for my detectors or the sites I hunted the most. My conclusion,
for ME, was similar to OregonGregg's.
