Hit the local wooded park late this morning for a quick hunt. I was running 3 tone and used the 5.5x10 closed face coil for the first time. The coil performed well, just a little bigger than i like swinging. Found the usual occasional clad and pulltabs. Hit a target that was not deep and rang in as zinc to screwcap. It was a 2021 American Racing Pigeon Union bird band. I did some research which led me to a site that sells them and helped to ID it as a ARPU band. I've emailed them to see if they can help further ID it from the registration number. This is the first bird band I've found in 30 years of detecting. Less than 50 yards from where I found it is a nesting Redtail hawk. I do wonder if this racing pigeon came in last place and was dinner.
