Products used to have simpler construction, circuitry wise, and they lasted a long time and were repairable. When they became more complex they ended up costing a lot more to repair, and sometimes there are repair parts around for a while once discontinued, but it gets to be iffy as time passes.
Then you have models like the FORS CoRe and FORS Relic. Once into full production, no 'updates' and no break-downs. They work, work quite well, and are durable.
