How to get the most out of the 6000 Pro XL later it was named XL ProWhite's Electronics

November 13, 2018 09:16PM
Hi analog White's Fans....

The 6000 Pro XL / XL Pro can be tuned to be a high performance metal detector by using a smaller 6½" concentric coil and a hotter Signal Balance setting. The hot Signal Balance setting along with the smaller coil allows the operator to use a slower sweep speed and still have great detection depth. The small concentric coil does not give up any appreciable depth as compared to the stock 950 coil. Below are my settings and why I do it this way.

Power: When I turn it on, I use the Pre-Set "Hot Rock Reject" some people on the forums use the "Hot Rock Accept" It never worked for me, it will Ground Balance much easier in the Pre-Set "Hot Rock Reject".

Mode: G.E.B. Disc

Disc. I set it up to reject a small nail. On my detector that is just below the Pre-Set mark.

Signal Balance: I run a hotter adjustment than Pre-Set.. usually at about 3 o'clock or higher depending on ground conditions or EMI.

Tuner: This is the Threshold adjustment for both the All Metal and Disc. modes, I use headphones and adjust to a low and just audible tone. I like to hear the Threshold but at a more comfortable lower level.

Pinpoint : With the trigger pulled to Normal All Metal mode, search around for a clean metal free spot on the ground to do the Ground Balance.

Auto Track®; Go back to G.E.B. Disc by releasing trigger & once you find the clean spot of ground, raise the coil about a foot in the air & toggle to the "Air" position and get instant beep, then lower coil to the clean spot on the ground & toggle to the "GND" and wait a second for that beep. Then start hunting in G.E.B. Disc.
And after awhile the Auto Track® should be caught up, then "Lock" the setting by placing toggle in the middle position.

Checking GB: Access the Pinpoint mode by pulling the trigger to All Metal mode and find clean piece of ground. Once found, bob the coil up and down from about 6 inches to about 1 inch from the ground and see how the Threshold responds to the ground. It should have a neutral or just slightly positive reaction to the ground, then you are good to go.

The beauty of this set up is as follows, it allows a slower than normal, fast paced swing speed associated with 4 filter design. Or you can use a faster sweep speed to cover more ground. The smaller 6½" coil is easier to hunt in the trash without giving up much depth as compared to the stock 9½" coil. I probably left out a few details but am willing to converse with anybody that is interested in this fine instrument.

Randy

Wayfarer, a little added comment about 'Fold-Over' and Signal Balance.

If you have the 6000 Pro XL / XL Pro Instruction Manual, refer to this.

Two very good models you've added, and a wise decision.
