Randy, great write-up. I was wondering if you could explain the symptoms of "fold back" while ground balancing, and how to know when you have the signal balance turned up too high for the ground you're in. As you know, yn the XL Pro, you can turn up the signal balance too high and lose depth, especially once you get past 2 or 3 o'clock on the control. I just back it off once it starts getting chattery, but maybe I'm still setting it to high and don't know it?

Scottwyl, I used the little 4" snooper on my XL Pro for awhile and found it to be maddeningly small and so light it threw off the balance. The 6 1/2" Bullseye concentric is small enough to get the job done in trash, gets good depth, and balances well, and is small enough to serve as my small coil on the XL Pro. I sold off my 4" snooper. It would be more useful on the IDX when you really want to slowly pick through heavy trash, on the XL Pro it's just too small to be useful.

And it sounds like you have the signal balance turned up too far for your ground if it's getting chattery, even if it's not all the way up to the preset. Everyone's ground is different. It's possible you could have a bad coil, but if it smooths out when you back off the signal balance then the coil's probably ok. You're not loosing that much depth as long as you are at at least about 12 o'clock on the dial. If you set it a 12:00 and it's smooths out, then I'd just run it there.

Wayfarer, a little added comment about 'Fold-Over' and Signal Balance.

If you have the 6000 Pro XL / XL Pro Instruction Manual, refer to this.

Two very good models you've added, and a wise decision.
