Cindy, was your response to me?

Sorry to hear you didn't like your Troy.
To be clear, I did like the Troy Custom Shadow X2 because it was basically the same as my Silver Sabre microMAX but w/o the Threshold control. I liked the Shadow X2 for one other reason, too. He had Jack make them in the 'European' color package of black rod and black control housing. Until they more recently released the 'black' version 'Hot' series models, the black colored detectors were reserved for foreign detector offerings. I liked the brown housing color but didn't care for the glossy, shiny gold colored rods that went through various hues and often didn't have matching upper-rod and mid-rod colors.

As for Troy's second effort to bring out the Shadow X3 and X5 that were NOT made by Tesoro but 'assembled' by Fisher, those are the Shadow models that just didn't fit in and work that well.

Two of my kids won them 20 years ago when they were young. so for me it's a memory of Years Gone by. They're about impossible to find over here now too.
Shadow models soled, but there couldn't have been a lot of them because with a high volume of sales it would have been enough for a business to stay operational. Troy Custom didn't stay afloat and I am sure the numbers produced and sold paled compared to their competitors, especially when most manufacturers were offering visual Target ID and audio Tone ID, plus the fact that Tesoro's sold for a much lower retail price.

So not all that many units out there and some are staying in the hands of folks who like them , like you have. Or they have worn out from rough use, broken down and didn't have serviceable repair, or ???

Cindy, a good Tesoro-built model should not be overlooked.

I agree about the "2nd effort" of Troy Custom Detectors.
