Re: Best model of the XLT series for inland gold jewelry hunting

Hello Todd,

While ive only spent any meaningful time detecting the last 6 years, and i have no experience with xlt machines, if youve followed my posts you'll see I've had success.

Ive found the MX sport to be a very useful gold and silver tool. The mx7 is an equivalent, sans being waterproof. Im a ring short of 1 troy ounce of 24k gold this year with more than 20 finds, some only .1gram, in a rather sparsely populated state.

Ive found the 7" dd detec to be optimal for me, and the 6" conentric is fine, if less sensitive on small or deep gold in my experience. You can notch in 5 vdi intervals, but ive found that i want to accept 0 to 40 if i want to get gold or small silver jewelry. I would say that 80%+ of my gold comes in between 0 and 20.

While my v3i gives more data, its almost impossible to distinguish between a pristine pulltab and a small mens ring or large womens ring. Just when i think i have a tell on one of the analysis charts, a surprise find proves me wrong. Its easy in retrospect to say the analysis clearly showed a premium alloy, but its never that easy. Thus, when jewelry hunting, i typically stick to the Sport and dig it.

If i notched, i would still dig pounds of foil to recover my gold.

Hopefully you find some utility in my response.
